So,

What is Engineered wood?

Due to its click-and-lock installation method, installing engineered woods at your home is a DIY process. Due to its flexible installation, engineered wood has become common in most of the homes. What is Solid Wood?

Solid Wood is natural wood directly acquired from the trees. It is made from lumber milled from real trees. Some of the most notable advantages of solid wood are its refurnishing option and resale value. With its premium and luxurious features, solid wood tends to have more resale value when compared to engineered wood. Solid wood can be easily refurnished even with the wood deprecation and can also be reused.

Solid wood is often used for furniture, construction, cabinetry, and flooring.

PROS of Solid Wood:

  • Timeless and Beautiful

  • Gold Standard in Flooring

CONS of Solid Wood:

  • Affected by Temperature, Humidity, and Moisture

  • Must Be Installed Over Select Subfloors

  • On Average, Pricier Than Engineered Wood

Solid wood flooring:

Solid hardwood flooring boards tend to be narrower than engineered hardwood flooring. Solid hardwood generally has very tight seams between boards, and there is a great range of colours. Solid hardwood is available in both pre-finished and unfinished boards.

Types of Solid wood flooring:

  • maple flooring

  • cherry flooring

  • Other species include bamboo (which is actually a grass), walnut, ash, and mahogany.

Engineered Wood vs. Solid Wood - Which one is best for my home?

So before making a final verdict, think of all the major factors involved, like heating, budget, etc.

If the room is prone to moisture content, like bathrooms or sauna, then opt for engineered wooden flooring. These manufactured wood can easily cope with temperature fluctuations, thus covering the need for underfloor heating. Especially plywood would be an excellent replacement for the traditional wood types.

The traffic or the number of people using the room on a daily basis also plays a vital role. A family room or living room would always be filled with people moving about, thus a high-traffic zone. In such a case solid wood floor will be the durable option. It can be sanded or polished multiple times, making it last for ages to come.

If budget is your biggest parameter, then engineered wood flooring is the best. With the click system, you can install them yourself. Besides, they bring in the look and feel of real wood.

Though it lacks the durability of the solid wood types, if maintained right, it can last for generations.

However, wood purists can go for solid wood. We don't have any complaints!

Though there is no real difference in resale value, solid wood flooring is seen as more luxurious and desirable compared to engineered wood flooring.
