How to deal with uninvited guests at Home?

Uninvited guests come, and it might seem like they never go. The problem is universal, and so are the solutions!

Read on and know how to deal with uninvited guests.

Having friends and family over to your place can be entertaining and super fun! But, we all have that one uncle who is so annoying, a cousin who is jealous of everything you do, or that old friend you don't get along with anymore who comes uninvited or overstays your welcome.

How do you send them out of your house 'politely' without literally kicking them out?

So, here are some things you can do to deal with uninvited guests.

  1. Ask them to do chores.

  2. Set a Time Limit.

  3. Don't be so nice!

  4. Offer to help them pack.

  5. Cook bad food and good lies.

  6. Make them pay.

  7. Start a major home renovation or pretend to.

  8. Get sick or pretend to.

  9. Family Emergency (A Fictitious One).
  10. The Time Check.
  11. Use Pets.
  12. Non-Verbal Cues.
  13. Plan Next Visit.

  • Ask them to do chores.

Give your unwanted guests chores from the moment they arrive home and give lots of them. Lecture them about the importance of keeping your house clean, hand them the broom and ask them to take out the trash.

Ask your guests to do their laundry and dishes, and when they are doing put in yours too. Also, subtly criticize them that they have not done their chores right.

  • Set a Time Limit.

If your unwanted guest does not tell you when they are leaving, set a time limit yourself and tell them that you feel so bad about them having to leave so early.

As the time approaches, tell them too many times you can't believe it's almost time for them to leave. Fake sadness in ways they think maybe you are faking.

  • Don't be so nice!

Don't make your uninvited house guests feel super cosy in your home! That's a big NO! We know keeping guests entertained is a vital part of being a good host, but not for an unwanted guest.

Throw away the hosting etiquettes, like you want to throw away the unwanted guests!

  • Offer to help them pack.

This is the only time to play the role of a good host! Offer to help them pack their bags. Or go a step ahead and pack their bags yourself and place them by the door! This will remind them that they can't stay any longer.

Book a cab for them, or wait by your vehicle to drop them off at the bus stop, airport or railway station.

  • Cook bad food and good lies.

Lie to your unwanted house guests that someone very important is on their way or you are supposed to leave soon to meet that very important person.

Forget to feed them, and when you do, serve them bad food. Serve burnt chapati, uncooked rice, and salty sambar. Please do not make the biggest mistake of ordering meals from a good restaurant nearby or even taking them there!

  • Make them pay.

Imagine getting paid for doing all these above-said things. Make your unwanted house guests pay, for as many things as possible. Let them pay for groceries or meals and transportation.

Go so far as to ask them for some contribution for the household expenses, if nothing helps this will drive them away.

  • Start a major home renovation or pretend to.

It is finally the time to paint your walls, repair that bathroom tap, and clean out the kitchen floor. Ask your guests to help you out, and if they do, you are giving them a chance to be more than just annoying guests.

If they don't, make them the most uncomfortable they have ever been, and ask them to move around a hundred times in an hour! And, insist they run to the nearest supermarket to buy a scrub and again separately, for a brush.

  • Get sick or pretend to.

Pretend to get sick lock yourself in a room and let them do all the chores. Use the excuse to make them run to the medical store many times a day.

Pretend to be sick only around them, subtly let them know that you are fine when they are not around.

  • Family Emergency (A Fictitious One).

If the situation becomes extremely dire, you could stage a convincing phony family emergency. For example, an unexpected health emergency with a close relative that requires your immediate care can be a valid cause to excuse oneself from an uncomfortable or challenging situation.

  • The Time Check.

Glance at your watch or phone and mention how late it is. This subtle indication can indicate to others that you need to conclude the conversation or meeting. It's a good method to manage your time without being overly unpleasant, allowing you to move on to your next commitment.

  • Use Pets.

To gracefully end a visit, suggest that you need to walk your dog or care for your pets. This provides a natural and legitimate justification to end the visit without offending your guests, allowing you to reclaim your personal space while ensuring your dogs receive the attention they need.

  • Non-Verbal Cues.

Yawn or stretch gently to show you're tired without saying anything. These natural activities indicate that you are winding down and ready to rest. Most guests will pick up on these indications and recognize that it is time to leave, allowing you to conclude the visit politely and without awkwardness.

  • Plan Next Visit.

To wrap up the current visit on a positive note, propose a future get-together. This demonstrates your appreciation for their company while also indicating that it is time to conclude. For example, "Let's plan another coffee date for next week!" I had a terrific time today, but I have some tasks to finish at the moment."

Hope you can say, 'good riddance' to your uninvited guests by following these processes.

Also, you mustn't invite them again, even by mistake. So, now you can say goodbye to unwanted guests!
